Revenue generation: Apapa Customs rakes in N165billion

By Udeme Clement

In line with the policy of the Federal Government to increase revenue generation for capital expenditure, the Apapa Customs Command has realised N165.7billion in the  half year of 2017, which represents 49.06 percent collection on target for the year.

The Customs Area Controller of Apapa, Comptroller Musa Jibril made this known through the document issued by the Public Relations Officers of the Command, Ijeoma Nwala, added that Apapa, which is the premier port has maintained its lead as the highest revenue collector in the Service.

He said, “Comparatively, the revenue profile of the Command has increased by  N44.7billion, representing 27.01percent growth over the previous year. The total amount collected in the corresponding period from January to June 2016, was N120.9billion, which was 31.48percent collection on target for last year. To sustain the increase in generation collection, we are calling on all officers of the Command to desist from activities that could impede on the ease of doing business initiative. We enjoined all importers, agents and other stakeholders at the ports to ensure total compliance to all extant laws on cargo clearance procedures.”

He went on, “Only recently the Command handed over seven seized containers of drugs arrested over false declarations to National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control (NAFDAC).  Therefore, we charge importers to improve their level of discipline and documentation because the consequence of false declaration is outright seizure and possible prosecution”.

Nwala said, “The high revenue collection was made possible through the exemplary leadership of Comptroller Jibril who leaves no stone unturned at blocking revenue leakages, in order to enhance collection of maximum revenue.”
