ABUJA- As delegates gather to elect members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), drummers, praise singers and petty traders were in ecstatic mood at the Eagle Square, Abuja, venue of the convention.
In spite of assurances from Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Dr. ifeanyi Okowa and National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye that non-accredited persons would not come anywhere close to the convention arena, petty traders converged behind the perimeter fence, and made brisk business with ease.
Equally not left out were vendors of various PDP souvenirs who combed every inch of space to hawk their wares.
For supporters of Sule Lamido’s 2019 Presidential ambition, the convention was the appropriate avenue to remind other Presidential hopeful that the former Jigawa State governor’s ambition is real and alive.
Outside the perimeter fence, shouts of “Nigeria, Sai Lamido,” rented the air even as security agents had a tough time controlling the frenzy.
The convention was finally declared opened by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi at exactly 12: 23 PM, following the late arrival of party chieftains.
