The curtains will today come down on the GlovesUp Programme, a boxing technical course initiated by the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Amateur International Boxing Association, holding in Lagos.
According to a statement by NOC’s Games, Strategy and Planning Officer, Samuel Fadele, the programme, which started on September 12, is the new certification course under AIBA’s classic star programme, which is designed for the grassroots engagement of future boxers.
The training which is open to coaches, referees, judges and staff of the National Boxing Federation, is designed to upgrade their knowledge of the rules of the pound-for-pound sport.
Fadele said, “It serves as an entry point into AIBA’s established certification courses and will help to clarify the route for each area of expertise”.
Meanwhile, the NOC and AIBA have successfully conducted AIBA 1-STAR Coaching Certificate Course in Lagos.
Organised under the the auspices of Olympic Solidarity Program,the course, which began on September 4, climaxed on September 11, with 21 male and 4 female coaches, participating.
