NIPR preaches service to humanity

By Bartholomew Madukwe

THE Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, has called on Nigerians  to emulate its former President, late Chief Bob Ogbuagu, in service to humanity

Chairman, Burial Committee, Prof Chibuzo Ogbuagu, said the deceased contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of Public Relations practice in Nigeria.

“We were not surprised of his giant stride. Chief Bob Ogbuagu was a people’s man. He lived and died for the public. Little wonder he co-founded the Federation of African Public Relations, now known as African Public Relations Association, APRA, in Nairobi, Kenya. He later became the first Emeritus President of the association,” he stated.

According to him, although late Bob Dee, as he fondly called, was a PR man, he was also in the advertising profession, as well as in newspaper management.

“The Institute would surely miss his lofty experiences, but we are glad that he lived a life of service and distinction, and that he died at a ripe age of 92. We are proud of his fulfilled life and remarkable legacies he left behind.”

President, NIPR, Dr Rotimi Oladele, on his part, gave insight how late Ogbuagu sacrificed his personal comfort and safety in pursuit of ideals he believed and worked for.

Similar encomiums for Ogbuagu  came from the past President General Ohaneze Ndigbo- Prof Anya Anya, former Governor of Lagos State and NADECO Chairman, Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria, NPAN, Institute of Public Relations in Ghana, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture and Rotary Club of Nigeria.
