LOKOJA—Following the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the country in recent times, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has urged the 21 council administrators in the state and traditional rulers to integrate Fulani herdsmen in their various communities, hold regular meetings with them to ensure permanent peace.

Special Adviser to the Governor Special on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abubakar Ohere, who said this at the quarterly meeting of Kogi State Council of Chiefs in Lokoja yesterday, added that the governor will leave no stone unturned to achieve the needed peace between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

He added: “Farmers and Fulani herdsmen can live together in peace and harmony. I also have strong faith in the Nigerian Constitution, which allows for freedom of movement and association to which the Fulani herdsmen are entitled just like other citizens.”

The Ata’Igala and President of the Kogi State Council of Chiefs, HRM Michael Oboni II, in his remarks, lauded the governor for accor-ding priority to the welfare of traditional rulers.

He promised that the traditional rulers will reciprocate the gesture through synergy with government on the way forward in their respective domains.
