A Model, Miss Mary Ukoli, who is one of the contestants in this year’s Face of Prestige Nigeria contest has urged girls to priotise sex education.
She said the call was made necessary by the need to promote the rights of the girl-child.
She said this yesterday in Lagos when she sensitized students of Destined Children, Ajegunle, Lagos State, on the importance of sex education.
Quoting Helene D. Gayle, she said: “If you educate a man, you are educating one person, but when you educate a girl you educate a nation.
“To commemorate the 2017 International Day of the Girl Child, I spent my time with the beneficiaries of Dreams from the Slum initiative who attend Destined Children School to discuss with them on sexuality and their right as a child.
“I am so passionate about childrens’ education most especially the girl child and this was why I initiated the Project S.A.G.E (Save A Girls Education).
“Nigeria is said to have the highest number of out of school children in the world, and the girl child constitutes a large number of it because a girl misses school daily.
“I strongly believe that every child has the right to be educated and no child should be denied an education. I believe I will do even much more to ensure I Save a Girl Childs’ Education.
“Happy Day of the Girl child.”
